Popular Asian Pop Stars

This article looks at a number of popular pop stars in the Asian music market. Asian popular music is denoted as "C-Pop" for artists from China, "J-Pop" for artists from Japan and "K-Pop" for artists of Korean descent.

Namie Amuro

Namie Amuro broke into the Japanese pop scene in 1990 and has grown into one of the most popular sensations in all of Asian pop. While many stars of pop music arrive and fade quickly, Namie Amuro is gifted with a special staying power that has allowed her career to surge even now, two decades after she made her public debut.

Asuca Hayashi

Asuca Hayashi debuted in 2003 and went on to quickly grow into a popular singer at age 13, known for her vibrant voice and mature stage presence. Hayashi's performances are nuanced and soulful, setting her apart from the many other singers of the J-Pop scene. Hayashi has released albums recorded in both Japanese and Chinese.

Im Jung-hee

Im Jung-hee is a singer of Korean decent who received a substantial career boost when Outkast signed to produce one of her albums. Outkast's interest in Im Jung-hee was a surprise to the music press around the world, and the rap duo popularized Im Jung-hee in the US and throughout Korea and Taiwan by appearing in one of her music videos.

Se7en

Se7en is a Korean-born performer who debuted in 2005 and is extremely popular in South Korea, Taiwan and China, and recently released an album for the Japanese market. Se7en is the recipient of popular recognition from such media sources as MTV Asia and MTV Japan.

Asian pop is a broad category of music with a nearly unquantifiable roster of popular stars.
